LEADERSHIP, MANAGEMENT, LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT

What is Learning & Development?

Learning and development is about creating the right culture and environment for individuals and organisations to learn and grow.

It's knowing the current and future capability needs of the organisation, as well as how to create a learning culture that drives engagement in ongoing professional development.

We understand that operating in the construction sector is not easy. There is already a myriad of training imposed by legislation and multiple authorities to ensure the safety of those operating on and around construction sites. Although we champion such training and development, we also know that this has a financial impact on organisations. With so much training undertaken it is only the mandated courses that typically get considered.

Having supported numerous construction companies we also know that good workers, particularly at management level are hard to find. We’ve seen good labourers and skilled tradesmen and women be accelerated into Site Management positions with little consideration for managerial experience, training or development.

What if these people could be better managers? More efficient, effective? Understand the requirements of the role more clearly?

In our eyes, the CITB Leadership and Management Suite is designed to help us answer these questions. They will support construction companies in improving efficiencies at Site Management level to provide a positive benefit to both operations, and the bottom line.

These courses will be delivered by our Regional Risk Manager and ex. HSE Inspector (Build Division) Emma Wilkinson, supported by Jonathan Hughes (MCIOB).

2. Skills gaps
The way your industry works is changing, the expectations of new employees are changing, L&D offers an opportunity to help your organisation adapt to these changes. It could be the training of new employees or upskilling existing employees. Enhancing the leadership and mangers to make them more effective. All these interventions can have a positive effect on employee engagement and productivity.

3. Reinforcing your values and culture
Organisations need to be inclusive and diverse to succeed in today’s fast-moving environment. This starts at the top and works down, by having effective leaders at all levels you will see your values and culture growing throughout all areas of the business, having a totally aligned workforce will inevitably have a benefit on your bottom line. Diversity brings an exciting feel of innovation and creativity, inclusiveness leads to high satisfaction and engagement leading to higher staff retention and reduced costs.

4. Promote from within
Promoting staff from within is a much more profitable idea than hiring externally. People who have been working with you for a long time know the company's business inside out; it is easier for them to cope with more global business challenges. And yet, before appointing current employees, it is necessary to determine if they are ready for professional growth.

5. Targeted learning
By working with PCR Global we can carry out evaluations around your organisation’s developmental needs, carrying out a gap analysis will allow you to invest in the key areas, resulting in a more efficient and targeted development program, resulting in the best ROI / ROE on your investment.

6. Attracting new talent
An organisation that prioritises employee training and development sets a benchmark, which draws in top-level talent. According to various surveys, job seekers consider employee training and development as a major benefit. From a company's viewpoint, retaining a skilled workforce and attracting quality talent are the two main advantages of employee training and development.

7. Gaining that competitive edge
In the present-day business environment, innovations, industry trends, and technologies are always changing. In this scenario, to stay ahead of your competitors, you must recognize the importance of training your employees. When you have robust employee training and development programs in place, your employees will better adapt to the changes, giving your organization the much-needed competitive advantage.

8. Keep pace with changes in legal and compliance issues
Modern companies need to develop continuously, which is why training is essential for employees. The importance of employee training is paramount, particularly when you are trying to keep up with industry changes, rules, and regulations. Having up-to-date knowledge about your industry will help you stay ahead of the competition and stay within the law.
