Introduction

CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme Refresher (known by industry ‘SMSTS Refresher’) is a 2 day course for Site Managers to re-qualify their original SMSTS or subsequent SMSTS Refresher. Each time a student qualifies, or re-qualifies their SMSTS the qualification expires 5 years from the end of the month in which they were assessed.

By completing the SMSTS Refresher the training time is cut from 5 to 2 days of training, making this the course the preferred re-qualification method for almost all employers.

As with the 5 day SMSTS, this condensed version covers all relevant legislation affecting safe working in the building, construction and civil engineering industries. It highlights the need for risk assessment in the workplace, the implementation of the necessary control measures and adequate communication to sustain a health and safety culture within the workforce.

This course is endorsed by Build UK as the standard training for all construction managers.

Delegates must have previously completed the 5 day SMSTS and hold a valid and in date CITB SMSTS certificate. You will be required to email your certificate to our Training Team before attending the course.

Certification

Certification for this course is valid for 5 years. To remain certified in this area, you will need to take a SMSTS refresher course before the expiry date on your certificate, otherwise the full course will need to be retaken.

Delegates need to attend all 15 hours (2 Days). 

Please be aware that certificates may take up to 8 weeks to be processed and delivered from CITB. If you have recently completed a course you can evidence your qualification by viewing your up-to-date training record on the Online CITB Card Checker (click to visit).

Assessment

To obtain certification students must pass a 35 minute exam consisting of 32 multiple-choice questions, selected by CITB. The pass mark is 81% (26 out of 32).

Delegates are permitted to use the Construction site safety – The comprehensive guide (GE700) publication for the last 15 minutes of the exam.
